Lucas Schaefer

Lucas Schaefer, who grew up in Waban, has published a novel, The Slip, which is set partially in Newton, including at Newton South HS, where he went to high school. The Washington Post calls the book “a sweaty masterpiece.” Schaefer will present a reading from it at Porter Square Books on Friday, June 13 at 7PM.

Jesica Jimenez Pineda

Jesica Jimenez Pineda of Chestnut Hill has been awarded the Foster Furcolo Award, which is presented annually to one graduate from each of Massachusetts’ 15 community colleges who exemplifies outstanding academic achievement, leadership and commitment to community service. Pineda graduated this year with an Associate in Arts degree in International Business from MassBay Community College, where she earned a spot on the Dean’s List and President’s List every semester,…
