A year ago, Sydney Sweeney went viral for opening up about her financial situation to The Hollywood Reporter. Despite being one of Tinseltown’s most prolific and bankable young actors, the “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” star claimed she couldn’t afford to buy a house in a gated community. In fact, her completely maxed-out budget wouldn’t even cover the cost of buying a security gate for her $3 million Westwood home.
But that was then. Amid continued success and numerous endorsements, Sweeney’s finances have obviously improved. Earlier this summer, the Spokane native and her Chicago-based fiancée Jonathan Davino, a younger brother of cannabis mogul Carissa Davino, dropped an impressive $6.2 million to buy a 1930s Bel Air estate.
Sweeney and Davino won a bidding war for the somewhat bedraggled old property, paying $250,000 over the asking price. Spanning 1.25 acres, the Old Hollywood compound certainly looks the “Sunset Boulevard” film part and has plenty of industry ties; last sold in 1984 for just under $350,000, the place was owned and occupied for decades by the son of famed Hollywood screenwriter Delmer Daves, widely known for his work with Golden Age stars like Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart and Gary Cooper.
Unfortunately, the listing contains no interior photos and is bleak on its outlook for the former Daves estate, noting that both the two-story main house and separate guesthouse “are likely teardown candidates.” Also mentioned is the fact that the property is surrounded by lavish new mansions valued at $20 million or more and thus is an “excellent opportunity for full scale new construction.”
We’re not sure if Sweeney and Davino will take that advice and build something new. But it’s worth noting that Sweeney is a fan of historic homes — her current Westwood residence, which she also won in a hard-fought bidding war, is a classic 1930s traditional mixed with some Tudor influences. Perhaps a renovation is in…
