Janelle Monáe’s Monster Makeup at the ‘Frankenstei…


Janelle Monáe is reveling in the spirit of spooky season.

The 39-year-old actress arrived at the premiere of Guillermo del Toro’s new “Frankenstein” film in Los Angeles on Monday night in freakish facial prosthetics mimicking a sinister monster. Outside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, her eyebrows were set under an immovable embellishment angled down toward the bridge her nose, resulting in a scrunched expression.

The heavy prosthetic positioned naked brow bones on a 45-degree angle on her forehead with faux wrinkles cutting across them. Below, she wore only a thin layer of black liquid eyeliner, concealer under her eyes and warm-toned bronzer on her cheeks. Meanwhile, her lips were dressed in brown liner and clear gloss.

A self-certified horror afficiando and AMC’s annual “HalloQueen,” this was far from the first time Monáe’s enlivened the fictional unnatural with intricate — albeit gruesome — makeup. On a recent Magazine cover, the “Hidden Figures” star worked with artists Chelsea Delfino and Sasha Glasser to apply prosthetics by DYAD Pro that transformed her into a Frankenstein lookalike. In a statement sent to WWD, Monáe’s stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn confirmed Glasser helped create her ornate visage for the premiere on Monday.

Janelle Monáe joined “Frankenstein” actors Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth on Monday night.
