Essential Cincinnati stops
Cincinnati is a city that quietly celebrates its unique strengths and values. While it may not always be in the spotlight, it has long been a hub for innovators and visionaries looking to build something sustainable and forward-thinking.
Take the Cincinnati Permaculture Institute, for example. As Susan from the Institute shares, “Among many other traditions of quiet firsts in a somewhat provincial city that’s NOT looking over its shoulder to larger metropolitan areas, the Cincinnati Permaculture Institute catalyzes a resilient, regenerative culture in this bioregion. Permaculture is the practice of designing systems using the natural world as our model. It informs us how to create sustainable, regenerative gardens, homesteads, and communities.
Since 2008 after our founders were trained by the originators of Permaculture, we have educated over 300 Permaculture designers, given countless workshops, installed dozens of food forests and forage gardens, and provided tens of thousands of native and rare, disease resistant, edible, perennial plants from our Growing Value nursery. Memberships, grant funding and donor support allow our nonprofit to keep our prices low and “plant-it-forward” in the Fair Share ethic of the Permaculture philosophy.”
